Introduction
On Saturday afternoon, October 11, 2008, 2-162 assembled on the parade ground at Camp Rilea. Alpha Company received its campaign streamer for service in Iraq during the 04-05 deployment, then several of the Volunteers received awards for meritorious service. After the ceremony, the battalion gathered on the grassy slope behind the starships and heard the BC break the news of the upcoming Iraq deployment. LTC Edwards explained to the Volunteers the nature, duration and location of the upcoming deployment. Reaction was generally stoic and resolved, but just about everyone knows that the months ahead will be rough ones for Soldier and family alike.
